In Ethiopia, coffee is not just a beverage; it is a cherished cultural ritual that brings people together. The traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony involves several elaborate steps, often conducted by a woman in a household or a designated host. The process includes roasting green coffee beans over an open flame, grinding the roasted beans, and then brewing the coffee in a special pot called a "jebena." During the ceremony, the rich aroma of coffee fills the air, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
